Music for Minors II

Music For Minors II (MFMII) is a nonprofit 501©(3)organization which provides music enrichment programs in elementary schools in the East Bay area. In addition to classroom enrichment, MFMII provides performance opportunities for children on professional stages and family music events at local schools and community events.

Music For Minors II recruits and trains community volunteers to serve as music docents in the schools. Each trained docent commits to teaching a one-half hour music lesson weekly during the school year; lessons include singing, rhythmic movement /dance, instrumentation and listening appreciation. Music docents do not replace regular music teachers, though they are sometimes assigned to classrooms that also have a paid music teacher. Music For Minors II encourages schools to expand their music programs, and is willing to help fill the void during a time when schools are facing financial difficulties. MFMII docents work in partnership with classroom teachers to integrate music into their curriculum. Many classroom teachers have been trained by MFMII and have become music docents in their own classrooms.
