San Jose Police Department Volunteer Program

San Jose Police Department Volunteer Program

The Volunteer Program (VOLT-Volunteer Opportunities and Leadership Training) was developed as a complement to the San Jose Police Department’s Community Policing Strategy. By utilizing volunteers and college interns to enhance existing police services, the program has become firmly integrated into the Department.

Volunteers are afforded the opportunity to work interesting assignments and they are encouraged to utilize their talents and to develop new skills. The department benefits by this exceptional talent from within the community and it serves to enhance the delivery of services and special programs. The opportunity to serve has benefited the volunteer, the Department and ultimately, the San Jose community.

The Volunteer Opportunities and Leadership Training (VOLT) program trains community volunteers who are utilized throughout the department for activities such as providing administrative support (filing, answering phones, copy work, shredding, etc.), photo processing, assisting with tour guides, lobby greeter, or assisting with recruiting oral boards. Trained and skilled volunteers can offer a wide and very useful array of services to support the department in a wide variety of service delivery functions.
