Warrior Canine Connection

Warrior Canine Connection is a pioneering organization that utilizes clinically based Canine Connection Therapy to empower returning combat Veterans who have sustained physical and psychological wounds while in service to our country. Based on the concept of Warriors helping Warriors, WCC’s therapeutic service dog training program is designed to mitigate symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress and Traumatic Brain Injuries, while giving recovering Service Members and Veterans a sense of purpose, help in reintegrating back into their families and communities, and a potential career path as a service dog trainer. The program also produces highly skilled Warrior-trained service dogs that will provide years of mobility and social support to Veterans with disabilities.

Outside of Healing Head Quarters in Boyds, Maryland, WCC also has satellite sites working from Menlo Park, CA, Fort Belvoir, VA, Asheville, NC, and Pittsburg and Philadelphia in PA.

Especially in our satellite locations, WCC’s greatest volunteer need is Puppy Raisers or Puppy Sitters.

Puppy Raisers will be trained by our staff to take on dogs in their home anywhere from 90 days to 1.5 years before the dog graduates and is placed with a Veteran or Military Family. Our puppy parents will be the first to tell you that the time, attention, and love they give to these future service dogs is incredibly rewarding and joyful. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age to be eligible for this volunteer role. All major costs like medicine, food, and equipment are at no cost for a volunteer.

Puppy Sitters take on the same training and work alongside Raisers to take on the dog for situations like the Raiser needs a break/reset, they go on vacation and the location is not animal-friendly, or they have obligations than not accommodate a dog.
